How Long Does Homemade Slime Last?
Before I talk about how to store slime I want to go into why you need to properly store it. And no matter how well you store it, slime will eventually go bad. But I am going to show you some ways that I keep my slime fresh and playable for weeks, sometimes even months. We normally get about 2-3 weeks worth of life out of our slime. However, my kids play with it a lot. We do store our slime at room temperature but I imagine if you store it in the fridge you may be able to keep it for a little longer. Just make sure if you do decide to store it in the fridge it is properly labeled and kept away from other food.
So on to the ways to store slime. Below I have listed my favorite ways to store slime. These are the products that I have found work the best and will keep your slime for weeks. Your kids work hard on their favorite slime recipes and they want to make sure to keep it as long as possible. These products will help them do just that.
How to Store Slime so It Lasts Longer
1.) Air-Tight Plastic Containers
This is my favorite way to store slime. In my experience it lasts longer and keeps it’s slimy texture longer when you store slime in an air-tight container. There are all sorts of air-tight containers to choose from. Different sizes, prices, colors, etc.
2.) Ziplock Bags
This is a very inexpensive way to store your slime. I like to use ziplock bags to store our slime if we have made a large batch. Or if we’ve made slime for a big group and they are taking their slime home. You can put their slime into the bag, label it and then your good to go.
3.) Glass Mason Jars
Glass jars are also a GREAT way to store slime. You can actually just reuse old pickle jars, baby food jars or you can purchase a bunch of glass mason jars. Just make sure you clean them out really well before you place your slime inside.
4.) Food Storage Containers
This one might seem a little strange but these food storage containers are perfect for storing slime. They are small, flat and can be easily stacked. I like these as an option for when you are making large quantities of slime like as a party favor or even if you are selling slime on Etsy.
