Just this past week my little 7 month old baby boy, decided he was tired of sitting in one spot. He has now mastered getting himself up off the floor on both his hands and knees. I give him a week or two and he will be all over the place crawling. As excited as I am for him to meet this important milestone, I am also extremely nervous. As we all know, curious babies tend to get into everything! That’s why I am trying to be as prepared as possibly to baby proof our home, before this happens.
Most people know to baby proof cabinets, electrical outlets and even hard surfaces. But there is one extremely dangerous hazard that many parents overlook. Window cords. I know that they may seem harmless but trust me when I say that if they are exposed or dangling, your baby can get ahold of them. These window cords are dangerous because they have the potential to cause strangulation in both infants and young children.
Just last month, October, was actually National Window Covering Safety Month. This was a month where we all come together to bring awareness to making sure that your windows are safe. An easy way that you can do this is to install only cordless window coverings or those with inaccessible cords in homes with young kids. So how can you know which window covering is right? It’s easy! To help aid parents and caregivers in making the right choice when it comes to selection window coverings, cordless options can easily be identified by the Best for Kids™ certification label. You can find Best for Kids products across the country and major retails. Let’s work together to help spread the word about Window safety.
