I’m not a big drinker but occasionally I like to have a cocktail or two especially at parties or big events such as NEW YEARS EVE! I pretty much know my limit and try as hard as I can not to cross over it, but like most people there have been times where I have over done it and ended up praying to the porcelain God the next day. Over the years I have learned there are a few things that you can do to help prevent a nasty hangover and ways to help you get over it.

1. EAT SOMETHING! I learned this the hard way, you should never drink on an empty stomach. Not only does it speed up the effects of alcohol but your going to have a much bigger hangover from consuming more drinks.

2. Rotate your drinks with water. One of the things that causes you to feel like crap the day after drinking is your body being dehydrated from the alcohol, so load up on water before, during and after you drink.

3. Avoid caffeine. Most people have coffee in the morning especially after a long hard night out. This is a bad idea because caffeine actually dehydrates your body even more making you feel more sick.

4. Try some Gatorade or another sports drink. These drinks are loaded with vitamins and can help replace the electrolytes that you lost while drinking or throwing up.

5. Take some Multi-Vitamins. This one may take a little longer to take effect but it works!

6. Sleep, Sleep and More sleep! Unfortunately when you have kids this isn’t always something that you can do but if you can these extra zzz’s will help speed up the hangover process.

7. Add some honey to a cup of hot water. Honey will help soothe the dryness in your throat and also help alleviate those queasy feelings.

8. Eat fruit (if you can keep it down). Fruit has a lot of vitamins and nutrients that will give your body more energy.

9. Avoid drinking all together. Is it really worth it for a full day of suffering for only a few hours of fun? It’s your call but if you over do it on New Years Eve, follow some of the tips above to make things a little bit easier.

Have Fun and most importantly Be safe! Do you have some hangover tips? I would love to hear them, leave me a comment below 🙂
