Just this past week my youngest son Caleb turned 18 months! It’s crazy to say to even say that because it seems like just yesterday he was making his grand entrance into this world. The past 18 months have definitely been an adventure, to say the least. Caleb is probably my most curious and adventurous child who loves to be on the go as much as possible.

Never Underestimate a Walking Toddler

This one was a hard one to learn because it seemed like Caleb went from standing to running and jumping without any stops in between. He loves to get from point a to point b and if he has to climb over obstacles to get there, he’s going to do it. I can remember a time that I underestimated my toddler, right after he started to walk. He was just talking a few steps here and there and I walked out of the living room for just a few seconds. I came back in and somehow he managed to find a way to crawl up onto the couch. He was just standing there with a HUGE grin on his face. You can imagine what my face looked like. After this I learned never to underestimate a toddler who can walk.

Baby Proof, Baby Proof and Baby Proof Some More.

A cruising toddler is a curious toddler and will be drawn to dangerous things in the house like light sockets, TV’s and doors that open and close. We started baby proofing the house as soon as Caleb started to crawl. We put special covers over all the light sockets, secured the dresses to the walls, and made sure to put gates up so he can’t get into the bathroom or kitchen. But what I’ve learned with baby proofing is that you need to constantly go through your home and make sure there isn’t something you missed. Because trust me…your toddler will find it!

Don’t Worry about Shoes

When my toddler started to learn to walk he had a hard time balancing himself with shoes on. We tried several different pairs and finally just let him walk without the bulky shoes and he did so much better. After a few weeks of mastering his walking skills we started to introduce shoes again and it went a lot smoother for him. He does prefer to walk without shoes so if we are at home or on a soft surface I just let him walk without his shoes. They also have special socks with a non skid surface on the bottom so they can still have their feet protected and warm without the heaviness of shoes.

Bumps and Falls Will Happen

When each of my children started learning to walk I was a complete mess. There was so much anxiety when they would wiggle and wobble. I was so afraid of them falling and hurting themselves. But if they fall that’s ok. That is part of the learning process. Toddlers have to learn to balance themselves and falling and getting back up is going to help them learn. BUT your job is to make sure the house is super baby proofed. If you have coffee tables, cover those edges up. Same goes with fireplaces. You want to make sure that if your baby falls they aren’t going to fall onto a sharp or hard surface.

Buy Diapers that move with your Toddler

I really can’t stress this one enough! A moving toddler needs diapers that will stay put whether they are crawling, standing or walking. Toddlers learning to move around, are not going to slow down because they need to go potty. You need reliable diapers that will keep all the stinky stuff where it belongs. IN THE DIAPER. You don’t want diapers that open up easily because your toddler is moving around so much. Because that would mean you’ll be picking up a lot more on the floor besides toys. And you definitely don’t want a sagging diaper that will slow your toddler down.

pampers cruisers

Pampers Cruisers are the perfect choice for cruising toddlers. They offer the best fit for moving toddlers and help keep them dry even on the move. Right now is the perfect time to stock up on Pampers Cruisers and Pampers wipes products at Sam’s Club! By shopping at Sam’s Club for your Pampers Cruisers you’ll be saving time and money. Sam’s Club has an offer now through October 31 for $8 off the purchase of two Pampers diapers or wipes items AND free shipping or Club Pickup. And because no parent wants to chase a cruising toddler around in public, Club Pickup and the Sam’s Scan & Go app let us busy parents bypass the register and make stocking up with a cruising toddler even easier.
