The Great Wolf Lodge Family Vacation Review: Part 1

Spending quality time together as a family is a priority for my husband and I. We love to take vacations but with two smaller kids it can be difficult to find places that are both kid friendly and also enjoyable for us.

 

I had heard people talk about The Great Wolf Lodge and it sounded like the perfect place for my husband and I to take the kids on a weekend vacation. We were given the opportunity to stay at The Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City, Kansas which is only about 4 hours away from my home. When I decided when we were going to visit I immediately started looking online at everything the resort has to offer.

Great Wolf Lodge

The Great Wolf Lodge has suites to accommodate from four to eight guests with each room having it’s own unique style. All of the rustic style suites come with amenities like granite counter tops, mini fridge and microwave. We stayed in the Family suitewhich can comfortably sleep up to 6 guests. We had our family of four in the room plus we took my mom and there was still plenty of room. The Family suite comes with 2 queen beds and a pull out sleeper sofa.

When we first arrived to the lodge my kids were in awe of how big the place was. The outside looks like a gigantic log cabin with huge water slides coming out of the side. There is really no picture that could show all of you just how gorgeous this hotel is, it is really amazing.

When you first come into the lobby the first thing that catches your eye is the clock tower. Four times a day the clock tower comes alive and the animatronic forest animals put on a 10-minute show with singing, story telling and more. It was great, we probably watched the show about 5 times because my daughter loved it.

Hotel Check in at Great Wolf Lodge

The staff were terrific and very helpful throughout the hotel. Check-in was a breeze with no lines. We arrived to the hotel at about 3:00pm and were able to go ahead and check-in to our room (Normal check-in is 4:00pm). Each person is given a wristband to wear for the water park like the one above. I didn’t know this but at IHOP right down the road kids eat free all day when you have these wristbands.

The Family Suite

 The room was really nice and extra comfortable. I am always leery about staying in hotels because you never really know what to expect but these rooms were super clean. The mattresses were all very comfortable even the sleeper sofa was soft. I always bring my own pillows and blankets to hotels but I didn’t even get them out of the car because I felt so comfortable and the blankets were so soft.

The living area is separated by a small wall and has a pull-out sleeper sofa, coffee table, night stand , table and chairs and dresser with TV and remote. My son wanted to sleep on the sofa and he liked having his own space to sleep and watch TV. As you can see from the picture Aubrey also liked the sofa!

The bathroom was a little small butgreat wolf lodge, great wolf, the great wolf lodge, great wolf lodge resortit was very nice. It came fully stocked with plenty of towels and wash cloths. The shower had great water pressure and after all of us taking showers it was still hot!

The Great Wolf Lodge Rooms are huge

There was plenty of room for all of us to get ready in the mornings. The sink area is the picture on the left. The wonderful cleaning staff left us a nice supply of shampoo, lotion and even kids body wash from the kids spa Scoops. The room comes with a hair dryer too, it’s always nice to not have to pack everything! On the right is the “kitchen” area. It comes with a microwave, coffee pot with plenty of coffee and cups, and a mini-fridge. We saw lot’s of families bringing their own groceries and this would not only be convenient but save you some money. It’s not shown in the picture but the room also comes with an ironing board and iron.

The Family Suites come with either a private balcony or patio. Our room came with a balcony and beautiful view! I think this was one of my mom’s favorite parts of the hotel. Every morning she would wake up and make her a cup of coffee and sit on the balcony while reading her complimentary USA Today paper.I can’t wait to share with you all the rest of The Great Wolf Lodge!
