The Boy Scouts of America have always been an organization that I support. It’s an amazing program for young boys to grow into young men and learn about team work, respect, and skills that will help them throughout their life. Our family first became involved with Boy Scouts when my son was in the 4th grade. His friend at school was telling him all about this awesome program where you can learn how to make fire, tie knots, go camping and have fun with your friends. Of course, it didn’t take much convincing for my son to know that he wanted to join. And so we did.
One of the things that I love the most about the Boy Scouts Of America is the fact that it’s such a family oriented program. They encourage parents to get involved and have fun right along with their kids. And believe it or not, I think at times some of the parents are having just as much fun as the kids are. Just recently we were invited to attend the 2015 Campout Under The Stars at the Driller’s Stadium in Tulsa. After learning about the details of the event, I jumped on it! It sounded like a great family friendly experience that we would all enjoy.
Campout Under The Stars
The Campout Under The Stars is just one of many events and campouts that the Boys Scouts of America hosts each year. This particular campout is a special event where families can watch a baseball game, have a hot dog while cheering on their team, watch a spectacular fireworks show, and then campout under the stars right on the baseball field.
This is such a fun campout because it’s a little bit different than a “traditional” campout but just as much, if not more, fun! We arrived early to the campout so we could watch the baseball game. It was such a fun experience to see so many scouts young and old, cheering on the Drillers. After the game we were treated to beautiful fireworks which was just the beginning of the fun. After the field was cleared all of the scouts and their families were invited onto the baseball field where you could set up camp. No tents needed for this campout, just a sleeping bag and mat.
Once everyone was comfortable the evening’s entertainment began. We were treated to Disney’s Big Hero 6 on the big screen. It’s always fun to watch movies but laying in the middle of the baseball field is a magical experience. For those that just weren’t ready to settle down yet, there were areas where kids could play catch, chase each other, or even play a game of baseball. I saw all three going on along with lot’s of fun and laughter.
After the movie, the lights went out around 2:00am so that everyone could catch a few hours of sleep. The sleep out was such a fun experience and you could see that throughout all of the faces of the Boy Scouts, including my son. I am so glad my family and I were able to be apart of that this year.
I knew that the Boy Scouts would be a program that my son would really enjoy. What I didn’t expect is that it would be something that would bring our family closer together. Through scout meetings, campouts and special events such as the Campout Under The Stars, we have created memories together that will last a lifetime. I am so thankful that my son decided to join the Boy Scouts and I hope he continues on this path until he makes Eagle Scout.
