Growing up in the 80’s was quite an experience to say the least. Last week as my family and I were having movie night we were searching Netflix and came across a couple of movies that I hadn’t seen in over 20 years. This started a huge discussion between my husband and I trying to think of our favorite movies that we had watched as kids. Here is the list of the 10 Best Movies of the 80’s!

1.)Legend: (1985)
Starring Tom Cruise, Tim Curry and Mia Sara

This was one of my husbands favorite movies! Tom Cruise is incredibly handsome in this movie and has to rescue the women he loves from the Lord Of Darkness while trying to save the world from turning dark. This movie actually scared me as a kid but I loved it! It is so beautiful and the story line is fantastic.

2.) The Goonies: (1985)
Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin Corey Feldman

You are not an 80’s child if you have never seen The Goonies. This is one of those movies that if I am flipping channels and come across it I will sit and watch the entire movie. My kids are even fans of The Goonies and we have watched it several times through Netflix and on TV. Great movie that will always make me laugh..”Rocky Road”!

3.) ET (1982)
Starring Drew Barrymore, Peter Coyote, and Henry Thomas

ET is one of those movies that makes you want to have your own alien…Not Really but if he were cute and nice like ET maybe. We actually have ET on VHS (yes we still have an old VCR) but when I tried to watch it with Jeremy when he was about 3 he was scared to death so we never tried again. Great movie though.

4.) The Princess Bride (1987)
Starring Robin Wright, Cary Elwis

“My Name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father, Prepare to Die.”…Need I say more!

5.) The Terminator: 1984
Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn

This was a pretty advanced movie for it’s time. Everyone liked it so much that they have since come out with 3 more and rumors of a 5th Terminator are going around.

6.) The Lost Boys: (1987)
Starring Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric, Corey Haim

I was only about 9 or 10 when I first saw this movie and it terrified me. It was really pretty scary but had a great story line. I like most young girls loved watching Corey Haim (RIP) and he did a great job in this movie. It’s been a few years since I have watched The Lost Boys but seeing this old movie poster makes me want to make tonight a scary movie night.

7.) Labyrinth: 1986
Starring David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and Toby Froud

A few years ago when I was at work I was talking to a group of my co-workers and mentioned this movie. They are the same age as me and had no idea what Labyrinth was. I was shocked! I thought that this was one of those movies that everyone has seen especially if you were a kid growing up in the 80’s. We actually own this movie on DVD and it is one of my kids favorites. It’s pretty sad that I can sing along to the movie and know all the words by heart.

8.) A Christmas Story: 1983
Starring Peter Billingsly, Melinda Dillion, and Darren Mcgavin

Ok this isn’t exactly my all time favorite 80’s movie but I LOVE it! I look forward to Christmas each year and don’t think it would be the same without being able to watch this movie at least once during the holidays. A Christmas story is a timeless movie that I think will be watched by generations to come.

9.) A Nightmare on Elm Street: 1984
Starring Johnny Depp, Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp

A Nightmare on Elm Street still scares the crap out of me. I can remember being about 4 years old and pretending to be asleep while my parents watched this movie. I swear this scarred me for life and I had to sleep with the lights on until I was grown. I was really excited when they decided to do a remake of this classic movie and I was very disappointed with the finished product. There will never be a better Freddy than Robert Englund.

10.) Footloose: 1984
Starring Kevin Bacon, Dianne West, Lori Singer and John Lithgow

What are some of your favorite 80’s movies?
