If there is one show that I would tell you that you have to see in Branson, it’s Jonah at Sight and Sound Theater. The show is incredible from the music to the costumes, the set design and the amazing actors. Jonah is the biblical story about a prophet named Jonah who was swallowed by a whale after he tries to run from what God has told him to do. The story has an incredible message about forgiving those who have done you wrong.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect as I had never seen a show at Sight and Sound Theater but from the moment it started I was blown away. The show starts off with a short cartoon (great for the kids) to give you a little backstory to Jonah and how he became a prophet of God. As the cartoon ends, the show begins right before Jonah disobeys God. The story takes you through the days leading up to God talking to Jonah and then what happens afterwords.
The sets throughout the show are incredible. I was truly blown away at all of them and couldn’t believe the detail that went into this production. The costumes are equally amazing and transform you back into the time of Jonah. I was mesmerized by the show and loved every single minute of it!
Overall the show lasts around 2 1/2 hours but there is a 15 minute intermission in the middle of the show where you can get up stretch your legs, use the restroom or grab a bite to eat. The snack bar sells quite a variety of food including hot dogs, nacho’s, pretzels and more.
If you have younger kids and you are wondering whether they will sit through a show like this, I will tell you that my six year old and 10 year old LOVED the show. There were tons of kids in the audience and you could hear them laughing and really enjoying the show. There are a lot of elements that are geared towards kids specifically.
Jonah is an amazing production and a must see if you are in the Branson area. Even if you are not a religious person it’s still a wonderful show that has a positive message that all of us can take away.
