My almost three year old daughter loves Sesame Street, in fact her two favorite characters are Elmo and Cookie Monster. So when I heard that they had a new live show out called Elmo’s Healthy Heroes and they would be making a stop at the BOK Center here in Tulsa I knew this would be the perfect birthday surprise for Aubrey.
About the Show:
When Super Grover loses his superness, Sesame Street needs a hero! Never fear, Elmo and his team of Healthy Heroes are here. Teaching lessons of healthy habits through song and dance, Elmo, Abby Cadabby and your favorite Sesame Street friends will explore exercise, nutrition, sleep/energy and hygiene – all in a quest to put the “super” back in Super Grover. It’s Elmo’s Healthy Heroes to the rescue!
When we arrived at the BOK Center there were happy kids running around everywhere! The atmosphere was just so exciting and you could see that all of these kids were so ready to get to see there favorite Sesame Street characters in live action. We were seated towards the side of the stage and had a perfect view of everything going on during the show. The way they have the stage set up there really is not a bad seat in the house. About 3 minutes before the show starts Elmo announces to the kids over the speaker that the show is about the begin and the kids go crazy. I just got such a kick out of seeing the excitement on everyone’s face, especially Aubrey!
The show was absolutely fantastic and a must for anyone who has younger children. The sesame street gang has all of the kids getting up and participating throughout the show which Aubrey couldn’t get enough of. The show has a great message and teaches the kids that in order to do your best you have to stay healthy. It then goes through different scenes and musicals that show the audience ways that they can get their “super hero” strength. One of my favorite parts was when the farmer lost her lunch and the fantastic 5 (Elmo, Zoe, Zoe’s Pet Rock Abby, and Telly Monster) had to help her find it. During the song they would ask the audience things like what is red, round and sweet and Aubrey yelled “APPLES”!! It was so adorable and I loved that the kids are able to feel like they are part of the show.
Throughout Elmo’s Healthy Heroes different characters would go out onto the floor and interact with the audience. They made sure to wave around and make each individual child feel special. Being on the floor definitely had it’s perks because the kids got to hug and get to dance with different characters. Even though we weren’t on the floor we still got to get in on the action because characters like Bert, Ernie, Cookie monster, Elmo and more would come to the sides and wave and Aubrey was even close enough she was able to give Ernie a high-five which was the highlight of her night.
The closing of the show was great with lot’s of singing and dancing and of course shooting confetti! Aubrey liked Elmo’s Healthy Heroes so much that when she woke up this morning, the first thing she wanted to do was go see Elmo! If your thinking about going to the show I highly recommend it. There were kids of all ages, and since it is a kid show they have a 15 minute break in the middle to allow parents to take the kids to the bathroom or just walk around. We had a great time and will definitely be seeing another show the next time Sesame Street Live comes to town.
