Planes: Fire and Rescue opens in theaters everywhere July 18th. Last month while I was in LA I got a chance to go behind the scenes, learn how to draw Dipper from Disney Planes and meet some amazing and very talented folks such as Jeff Howard (co-writer) and Paul Gerard (Director-Creative Development) from the film. Jeff and Paul were so gracious enough to sit down with us for around 30 minutes and tell us how exactly Planes: Fire and Rescue came about.

PLANES FIRE & RESCUE

You might be surprised at just HOW much goes into creating a film such as Planes: Fire and Rescue. They don’t just write the story and then go straight to the drawing board. Nope, they have to do their research which can take months. But it’s not the kind of research you might be thinking of. They actually get hands on and experience things first hand to help bring the story to life.

Throughout the research period the filmmakers would visit locations such as Yosemite and Yellowstone National Park to help draw inspiration. When you see the movie, chances are you will notice lot’s of similarities to the parks and this is one of the reasons.

Not only did the visit these parks but they got to visit real fire-fighters and park rangers who helped in the process of making the film.

Jeff and Paul also did a little daredevil action as they flew UPSIDE DOWN in a helicopter with Chuck Aaron who is an Aerial  Stunt Pilot. Planes Fire and Rescue opens in theaters everywhere July 18th! It’s full of action, adventure and lot’s of humor.
