During the summer I have to really think outside the box when it comes to finding new ways to entertain my kids. The first couple of weeks are of summer vacation are fine because, well no school means getting to sleep in, watch TV, etc. But as the days go on my kids start to get bored and run out of things to do. A few years ago it was raining outside and I decided to have a family movie night. But instead of just watching the movie from the couch I decided to make a huge blanket fort in the front room that we all gathered inside to enjoy our night together. It was one of the best times and my kids still talk about it. If you’re looking for something fun to do this summer and want to learn how to make a blanket fort then you have come to the right place.
How To Make a Blanket Fort
There is no right or wrong way to make a blanket fort. You just have to use your imagination and a few things around the house. For most blanket forts you will need things like
- Blankets
- Pillows
- Large Sheet (the bigger the better)
- Chairs
- Heavy Books
The first thing you want to do when making your blanket fort is to pick a good spot. The living room is ideal but you can set up a blanket fort anywhere really. You just want to make sure that you aren’t blocking doorways and that there is plenty of room for people to get around it.
Next you will want to make the base of the fort with your chairs. If you are building a large blanket fort then you will need more chairs. But for this fort I am going to make a small fort. You will place 2 chairs facing their back towards the fort on both sides. Make sure you have enough room to get inside and move around. If you need more room just space farther apart.
After you have your chairs set up next drape a sheet over each set of chairs. This will make the wall. Next add a large sheet over the top of the fort. Secure the sheets by placing books over the sheets on the chairs. You can also secure the top of the sheets to the chairs with close pins or rubber bands if you need to.
And last but not least you will make the inside of the fort your own. We added a large soft comforter and some pillows, perfect for family movie night.
Now that you have your blanket fort all set up, the next step is finding out which movie to watch inside of it. Luckily for us we will be streaming free movies all summer long with VUDU, but don’t worry you can too! I recently purchased Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan featuring Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE data PLUS a free movie on VUDU ($7 value) every month per line for $49.88. Plus many of the Walmart Family Mobile phones are on rollback including:
- Cool Pad Rogue- $19.88 (Rollback from $39.83)
- HTC Desire 626s- $129.00
- Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime -$129 (Rollback from $149.00)
- LG G Stylo – $179.00 (Rollback from $199.00)
- Samsung Galaxy Core Prime – $79.92 (Rollback from $99.92)
- Alcatel Fierce XL- $99.88 (Rollback from $119.00)
I purchased the Cool Pad Rogue because it’s the perfect phone for my family, plus it’s on rollback for only $19.88! The Coolpad Rogue is 4 G capable, has a 1.1 Dual Core Processor and a large touchscreen. It’s a great little phone.

Don’t forget the snacks!
You have your blanket fort set up and your movie picked out (we’ll be watching Norm of The North), but it’s not family movie night without snacks and what says movie night snacks better than Swedish Fish. Swedish Fish recently got all new packaging. The new 1.9 lb. bag is on Rollback at Walmart for $4.48. Don’t worry though. Even though they have a new look they are still the same fish. You can the Swedish Fish in their new packaging on special displays at your local Walmart.
Also be sure to visit the Walmart Family Mobile Social Hub where you can find out when a Walmart Family Mobile in-store rep will be available to assist you and bonus, they’ll have Swedish Fish samples on site.
