I have to admit I had never made a peach cobbler before today but peaches were only .98/lb at Walmart so I though I would give it a try and I am really glad I did because it was not only really easy to make but it was really yummy!

For this Peach Cobbler I am using Fresh Peaches, you will need about 5-6 large Peaches. You will need to preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Peel the skins off of the peaches and take the Pit out. Then you need to slice the peaches up.
Now add 1 teaspoon of cinnamon and 1 Cup of Sugar to the sliced peaches and mix well. Set Aside
Next is the crust mixture. In a medium bowl mix (cream) together 1/2 cup of shortening with 1 cup of sugar. I mixed these together really well.
Now mix in 1 1/2 cup of flour, 1 cup of milk, 2 tsp of baking soda and 1/2 salt. I mixed in the milk a little at a time and this made it easier to mix everything up.
Pour this prepared mixture in a 10X10 greased pan. I had to use a 2.5 Quart baking pan and it worked fine.
Now top the crust mixture with the peaches.
Boil 2 cups of water and as it is boiling add 3 tablespoons of butter.  Pour the boiling water with butter into the peaches. I know it sounds weird but trust me the crust cooks up!
Place your cobbler into the preheated oven for 40-50 minutes or until golden brown, depending on your oven. I actually had to cook mine for a little bit longer because of my oven.
Here is the finished Homemade Southern Peach Cobbler..You can top this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream and it makes it even better..Enjoy!
