I participated in an Influencer Activation on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Monk Fruit In The Raw. I received product samples to facilitate my post as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation.

I have always had quite the sweet tooth. Even as I get older I can’t seem to resist the sweet stuff, but it’s not so forgiving on my waste line as it used to be. So I have had to try to come up with ways that I can still have my cake and eat it too! Luckily there are products out there like Monk Fruit In The Raw that give you all the sweetness you need without the added calories that comes along with sugar.

Alternative to sugar
Since my kids have the same sweet-tooth as their mama and September is Childhood Obesity Month I have teamed up with Monk Fruit In The Raw to help me create some great after school recipes that help me reduce our sugar intake without sacrificing the taste. Monk Fruit In The Raw is a wholesome, zero-calorie sweetener, made with real fruit.  It has a simple, sweet taste that can be used in any recipe that calls for sugar.

My kids are always starving when they get home from school. I like to give them a snack to tie them over until dinner but at the same time I don’t like to make them lose their appetite either. So a great way to tie them over is with a little bit of popcorn and a hot cup of cocoa. Monk Fruit In the Raw has some amazing recipes on their site including one for S’more’s Hot Cocoa. So we tested this recipe (minus the marshmallow and graham crackers) out to see how it compared to our normal hot cocoa made with sugar. The verdict…It’s delicious!

s'mores hot cocoa

What You Need:
2 tablespoons Monk Fruit In The Raw
2 tablespoons natural unsweetened cocoa powder
1 ounce good quality dark (60-65 percent) chocolate, chopped
1 cup reduced-fat (2 percent) milk
2 marshmallows, halved crosswise (optional)

Directions:
Place the Monk Fruit In The Raw, cocoa powder, chocolate, and 1/4 cup of the milk in a small saucepan. Set the pot over medium heat and cook, stirring with a wooden spoon, until the mixture is smooth, about 4 minutes. Do not let it boil. Add the remaining milk and cook, stirring, until it is hot. Pour the hot chocolate into a mug, preferably clear glass. Add the marshmallows. Add the graham cracker as a stirrer or alongside the hot chocolate.
