Before last week car maintenance for me consisted of driving my car to the dealership and letting them do the work for me. I was never taught how to do car maintenance so I just assumed it was something I couldn’t do on my own. Well I was wrong! Last week I was given the task of changing my car’s air filter. I’m going to admit that I was a little intimidated wondering if this would be something that I could do on my own or would I totally jack my car up.

Walmart carries the FRAM Fresh Breeze Cabin Air Filters  in their auto department. I wasn’t really sure what type of filter to get but luckily they make it easy for you to look up the make and model of your car and find which filter is right for you. You can check out my shop for this filter here. Instructions couldn’t be easier because on the front of the FRAM box you simply scan the code and it takes you to a video with step by step instructions on how to replace your old filter.

The real test came with me actually replacing the filter. I followed the instructions and low and behold I had changed my first filter in less than five minutes. I was pretty proud of myself! I was also shocked  to see how dirty my old filter was, just look at it below.

My family all suffer from pretty bad allergies and I always wondered why my kids would start sneezing as soon as they got in the car. Well after seeing my dirty filter I pretty much figured out the reason. They had been breathing in this dirty air every time I turned the air conditioner on. After just a few days of using the filter I could really see a difference in not only the smell of my car but my kids seemed to be less sneezy than before.

You might be wondering how The FRAM Fresh Breeze Filters could make my car smell better. Well they are made with Arm & Hammer baking soda which help to preserve the freshness in your car. The baking soda also helps with the pollen particles and road dust making the car ride a much more pleasant one with allergy sufferers.

After seeing how dirty my filter was I will no longer wait to change my filter. I plan on replacing my filters twice a year so that they never get in that bad of shape again. The FRAM filters are pretty inexpensive costing about $20 each and they are so easy to install. Take the challenge yourself and see what a difference it makes. You can save a little extra money by using this FRAM mail in rebate, see the coupon for details.
