First let me say I know vaccinations is a touchy subject for many parents. I am not here to judge or tell you what you are doing is wrong, I am simply stating MY personal opinion on this and welcome every one’s comments or criticism. With that being said I recently came across an article on Chicken Pox Parties. If your not familiar with what a chicken pox party is, let me give you a short description.

Chicken Pox Parties are basically a “party” where one child has the chicken pox and other parents bring their children who have never had the disease over to be exposed so they will in return catch it. The reasoning behind this is that they believe that by having them catch it earlier it will reduce their risk of side effects and the disease won’t be as bad as when they get older. This is something that has been going on for quite some time. I honestly can understand the fears behind vaccinating your child but really why in the world would you expose them to this. I can’t stand to see my kids sick and the guilt I would feel by knowing I allowed it to happen is too much to think about.

Both of my kids are vaccinated. I felt like I educated myself enough on the risks and complications that I was comfortable enough to have it done. I am also a RN who has given many vaccinations over the years and I have never seen a side effect that would make me question not vaccinating my kids. However I do understand why many parents hesitate and decide to wait until their kids are older, as a parent it’s heartbreaking to see them have to endure so many shots over a short amount of time. But I think if my kids were to get all of those shots now at ages 3 and 7 would be devastating for both of them. Like most kids they are scared to death of injections, so I think in the long run it’s better to be done when they are younger and will forget.

So what do you think about this subject? Have you been to a pox party or know of someone who has. I would love to hear your thoughts.
