I’ve been bursting at the seems to talk about this next post. You may remember back in November, I went to LA with Disney. While I was in town our group also got the chance to get a sneak peak of ABC’s newest hit Marvel’s Agent Carter tv show which premiered last week. Did you see it? It’s an amazing show, isn’t it! Ok so back to last year. After we all got a sneak peek of the Agent Carter TV Show we got the chance to go behind the scenes of Marvel’s Agent Carter. Behind the scenes means I actually got the chance to walk onto the set of the show, talk to the costume designers, and even chat with Agent Carter herself, Hayley Atwell. It was an incredible experience to say the least.
Agent Carter TV Show on ABC
The set of Marvel’s Agent Carter is seriously amazing. The staff and crew who built the set and put all of the little details into place are truly talented people. Hours and hours of work goes into each and every episode to make it as realistic as possible and to hopefully draw the audience into the story.
Going on a closed set can be nerve racking. You certainly don’t want to be the one that makes a loud noise or causes the director to say “CUT” because you’ve messed a scene up. Well it’s not exactly that tense but that was what I expected as I walked through the set door. Of course my mind was quickly put at ease because it’s nothing like you see on TV. And seeing how huge and over the top everything really distracts you anyway.
On Set of Agent Carter
While on set we visited several different areas. First we got a chance to walk through the diner in which a particular scene was shot. Everything was right on theme right down to the 1940’s newspapers. Next we headed into the S.S.R office which was really incredible. We sat down at the desks and went into the separate offices to get a sneak peek inside those as well. It’s really neat to see these sets on TV and know that “I sat right there in that desk”.
Agent Carter Costumes and Accessories
After the set visit we learned about the costumes. The costumes used in Agent Carter are either vintage items from that particular era or they are custom made. Most of Haley’s costumes are custom fitted because that’s how they used to make clothing for women back in the 1940’s. Gigi Melton is the costume designer for Agent Carter and she went through the process of making the clothing perfect for each actor.
You might be surprised to learn that they actually make several of each particular outfit. For instance on the men’s suits they may make up to 7 different suits depending on the what kind of scene it’s used in. The designers make a lot of the clothing from hand but they also buy different clothes and accessories from the 1940’s. It’s a very interesting process to learn just how much goes into the look of each character.
Meeting Hayley Atwell who plays Agent Carter
Finally our set tour ended with meeting the very beautiful and talented Hayley Atwell AKA Agent Carter. She was in the middle of filming and took a break to come and chat with us about the show. She was dressed in a stunning red and black plaid dress and looked exactly like she does in the show. AMAZING. Hayley was so excited about the show and thrilled to talk with us about her role.
If you watch the show you will quickly learn that Agent Carter isn’t someone to mess with. She may be beautiful but this woman can kick some major butt. Hayley did do some theatre and stage training that helped her with her role. She does a lot of fighting in the series so the training helped her make the fights look realistic without her really hurting anyone.
I really hope that you guys will catch the next episode of Marvel’s Agent Carter. You can see the show every Tuesday at 9PM ET/PT on ABC.
