I am a firm believer that everyone should have a least one pet. Pets are amazing companions and provide so many benefits to people of all ages. There are so many different kinds of pets that there is one out there for everyone. There are a million reasons why you should own a pet but for now I am going to give you my top 6 reasons why.
6 Reasons Why You Should Own a Pet
Pets provide unconditional love and companionship.
If there is one thing that you will always get when you own a pet, it’s constant love. Pets are the best at making people feel loved and wanted. Even when there is no-one around, your pet will be there to snuggle in your lap, give you kisses and hugs. Pets don’t judge so you can be yourself, act silly and let loose.
Pets teach responsibility and give you something to look forward to.
When you have pets you are responsibly for feeding them, grooming them and making sure they have everything they need in life. Owning a pet and having to do these things is a great way to show kids or even adults about being responsible and caring for something other than themselves.
Pets help with Anxiety and Stress
It’s a proven fact that pets can help people with their anxiety and even stress. That’s why you are seeing more and more service dogs helping people. I can tell your from experience that there have been times that I have had a horrible day at work or even school. I just wanted to go home, crawl into bed and pretend the day never happened. But then you get home open the door and your sweet dog or cat is there waiting for you with open..PAWS. Pets can turn even the worst of days around just with their love.
Pets Help Keep You Fit
Pets are GREAT for helping you stay in shape, lose weight and get fit. Dogs love to walk so by taking your dogs on walks everyday you will be exercising and not even realize it. And when your on the floor playing with your cat, that is active movement. It’s hard to believe something as fun as playing with you pet is actually a healthy exercise.
People with Pets Live Longer
There have actually been studies done that prove people with pets live longer. I think when you have a pet that you love it gives your more reason to fight or to get better faster.
Pets Help Fight Loneliness
When my dad passed away I knew that my mom was going to be lonely, and she was. But having her two dogs really helped her through that difficult time. She had someone to come home to. Someone to watch TV with and even sleep with at night. It’s sweet to see the bond that my mom has with her pets. And this bond has only grown stronger since my dad passed.
Celebrate Your Pet In May
May is National Pet Month and you can celebrate by joining Purina’s Great American PETtogether, a month-long campaign that celebrates people and their pets. To help celebrate just share a selfie of you and your pet, using the hashtag #PurinaPETtogether. For each selfie shared, Purina will donate $1 to the Petfinder Foundation (up to $25,000). Here is the selfie that I used, it’s one of my FAVORITE photos and shows just how great pets are, especially with kids.
You can also treat your pet and earn a little cash back this month on Purina Products at Walmart. Visit Walmart.com for more information on how to use Ibotta to save on your favorite Purina products. This offer is good now through 5/31/17. We like to use Purina ONE because it contains real meat, fish or poultry. Purina ONE formulas gives pets the taste they love and the protein they need. Plus as you can see from the picture above our dog Willow thinks it tastes pretty GOOD!
