2012 Holiday Gift Guide-Skylanders Giants

Every year right after Halloween my kids anxiously await the release of the big toy books that the major retailers put out. It’s really exciting for me to watch my kids scramble to look inside to see which of these toys will be on their Christmas wish lists. Last year one of my son’s top picks and favorite gifts was the Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure starter pack. He wore this game out, because by being able to add characters and levels to the game he was able to prolong the game play throughout the year. This game was also one that most of his friends also had, so whenever they would get together for play dates we would load up all of his Skylanders characters to take with us. I was secretly hoping that Skylanders would come out with a follow-up game but they did one even better than that with the release of Skylanders Giants.

Skylanders Giants was released on October 21st and it’s already receiving rave reviews especially in my house. We received the Skylanders Giants Starter Pack for the Wii which includes includes new game software, one Giant Skylander, one new Skylander, one Series 2 Skylander, three trading cards, and a poster all for around $75.If your worried about the original characters being incompatible with Skylanders Giants don’t be, because they are 100% compatible and each of their abilities and upgrades follow with them.The Skylanders Spyro Adventures characters also increase their level cap from 10 to 15 in the new Giants game,  So in other words you can play with both new and older characters.

The game tells the story of how the Skylanders Giants were banished thousands of years ago to Earth. Now that Kaos (the bad guy) is back it’s time to bring these Giants back and join forces with the Skylanders. With the Portal of Power, players are able to bring these characters to life so that they can battle Kaos and save the Skylands. With this newest game you will be introduced to new games, new enemies and new areas of the Skylands. The Giants are amazing and my son just loves them. They are about twice the size of the regular Skylanders and the use this size and power to help defeat the enemies.

There are so many aspects of this game that I like I could write 5 blog posts and still have more good things to say. It’s a great game and fun for both kids and adults. I will warn you that it can become quite addicting and almost an obsession to collect all of the Skylanders Characters. They are just fun to have and each character adds something unique to the game. The game is recommended for Everyone ages 10 and up for mild cartoon violence, although my son is a little younger than this and does just fine with the game. He normally can get through levels and puzzles by himself but every so often he will get stumped and need some help. I highly recommend this game and think it’s the perfect holiday gift for your little and big gamers. You can look for this game in stores and online now.
