Back to School time is really bitter sweet. On one hand the kids are going to be gone the majority of the day which means no more breaking up fights, no more hearing “I’m bored 100 times a day” and less of a mess to pick up. On the other hand, back to school means homework deadlines, waking up early and going to bed early. But don’t worry parents you are not alone. We are in this thing together and thats why I have created these 10 Back To School Tips For Parents to help make the the start of this new year a smooth transition for all of us.
10 Back To School Tips For Parents
Start creating a Back to school routine a couple of weeks before school starts. This means adjusting bedtime and no more sleeping in till noon. Starting weeks before school will let your body adjust instead of just trying to train your body in a day or two.
Create a Back to School breakfast and lunch menu that has quick, easy and healthy meals. Once you’ve created your menu head to the store and stock up on the food you will need for breakfast and lunches.
Reconnect with Friends Before the first day of school. This will help to ease your child’s anxiety about going back to school because they will be excited to see their friends.
Be Prepared for the aches and pains that come along with going back to school. My suggestion would be to stock up on health essentials such as Children’s MOTRIN® and BENGAY®. My kids tend to get headaches a lot more during the school year so I always have Children’s MOTRIN® on hand. Children’s MOTRIN® is for kids ages 2 to 11 years . It’s great for temporarily reducing fever; relieving minor aches and pains due to things like the common cold, flu, headache, sore throat, & toothache. I also keep Ultra Strength BENGAY® Cream on hand for those minor aches and pains of muscles. It’s made for adults and children 12 years and older and helps to soothe or ease those sore spots.
Pack backpacks in advance. I recommend at least a week in advance that way you see how much space you have and you can make sure you have everything you need. This is also a good time to make sure that the backpack is going to be a good fit for your child.
Do a practice run of the first morning of school a few days before the actual first day of school. This means having your child get up, get dressed, eat and head out the door just like they are going to the real first day of school. This is a great way to get prepared and let your child know what to expect.
Organize your space. Kids should have a special place for backpacks, jackets and where they do their homework. Train your kids to hang up their gear everyday so that you save yourself the drama of searching for a lost bag the morning of school.
Write down all important numbers and keep in a easy to find place. This includes numbers to the school office, after-school sitter or day care, and your neighbors in case of emergency. It’s always better to be prepared and have these numbers on hand instead of searching for them when you really need them.
Set your kids up for success. Create a routine that includes getting homework done before TV or video games, keeping backpacks and folders organized and making sure you keep on top of paperwork that comes home from school.
Parents don’t forget you need a good night’s sleep too! Going back to school can be stressful and hectic for parents and once the end of the day comes to an end you might find yourself with a headache or some minor aches and pains and unable to sleep. A great way to combat both of these issues is with TYLENOL® PM which is non-habit forming and for adults and children 12 years and older.
