Montreal, Quebec’s largest city, is a very popular destination for families. With all that the city has to offer to kids, from toddlers to teenagers, it can be hard to make a choice! Here’s a top 3 of family activities to do in Montreal.
La Ronde
Six Flag’s amusement park La Ronde in Montreal is a kids’ favorite. And, frankly, parents are going to dig it too! With some pretty amazing rides – such as The Monster, the largest all-wood roller coaster in the world – and activities for small kids as well as teenagers, La Ronde guarantees a good family time. Not to mention that is it located on the St-Helene Island, on the South-East shore of Montreal, and that the view on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge and Montreal downtown from there is amazing. During the months of summer, La Ronde is hosting a world-class firework competition. Teams from all over the world compete to create the best, most impressive and most breath-taking firework show ever!
Montreal Science Center
Located in Montreal’s Old Port, the Montreal Science Center is the ideal way to spend an afternoon with your curious and playful kids. The many interactive exhibitions and installations are fun and entertaining, all of which while being informative. The Science Center also has the IMAX®TELUS movie theater. All kinds of fun, educative, family friendly movies are projected on this incredibly large screen, in HD and through a truer than life stereo sound system. Your kids won’t forget their experience anytime soon and will come out of there with an awe.
Espace Pour La Vie (Biodome, Planetarium, Insectarium, Botanical Garden)
Be warned: An afternoon might not be enough to fully appreciate the many things that the Espace pour la vie has to offer. While visiting the Biodome, you’ll walk through recreated ecosystems: The warm and damp tropical forest, the arctic, the boreal forest, etc. Different animals can be observed very closely! The Insectarium is full of specimens from around the world and offers many kid friendly animations. The Botanical Garden is perfect for an afternoon walk, especially in the spring, when the mere 20 000 different trees and plants are blooming! The brand new Planetarium Rio Tinto Alcan presents two different show: A striking, unforgettable 25 minutes immersive experience that will project you into the cosmos, and a 45 minutes informative trip in our solar system and our galaxy. If you have to pick one family activity in Montreal, pick the different museums of Espace pour la vie. They truly are worth your while! Plus you’ll get to see the iconic Olympic Stadium up close.
