It’s hard for me to believe but my son just turned 10 this past week. He didn’t want a huge birthday party but rather a few of his friends to come over a spend the night. About a week before the party he asked me if we could do a Minecraft Birthday Party so I started looking for minecraft birthday party ideas on how to make this work in such short notice.

Minecraft birthday party

Minecraft Birthday Party

When throwing a Minecraft party you have to make sure you have all the basic party essentials like food, games, and decorations . I’m going to show you some of the awesome things that I did to make this Minecraft Birthday party EPIC. Hopefully this will help you to create your own fun Minecraft themed party.

Minecraft Party Pancakes

The morning of his birthday I made him some really fun Creeper pancakes. They aren’t the prettiest but my kids absolutely LOVED them and it made my son’s birthday breakfast extra special. To make these pancakes it’s super easy. Just add about 7 drops of green food coloring to your homemade pancake batter, and then cut the creeper face out when they are cooked. Easy Peasy.

Now I am really surprised that the stores are not bursting with Minecraft toys and decorations but they’re not so this is where the internet and a little creativity come in to play. You don’t have too be crafty, TRUST ME you just need to know how to draw a creeper face for most of these Minecraft decorations. Here are some of the decorations we used.

Minecraft Party Decorations

Minecraft Balloons

These Minecraft balloons are so cheap and easy to make. All you need to make them is green balloons and a black sharpie. You blow the balloons up and draw the creeper face on the front. We didn’t use helium but I think these would be really cute floating around the room.

Minecraft Creeper Door Cover

This Minecraft Creeper door cover decoration cost me a whopping 97 cents! All you need is a large green plastic table cover. Cut it to the size of your door or wall and then draw the creeper face on the front with a sharpie. You could even use black tape which would probably be a little less time consuming.

Minecraft Decorations

Minecraft Portal

If you asked me what a Minecraft portal was before this party, I wouldn’t have had any clue. But the look on all the boys face, especially the birthday boy, when they were able to walk through the Minecraft portal was priceless. This Minecraft party decoration was definitely the best of the all party decorations! All of the kids saw the minecraft portal as they walked through the front door. All we used were black streamers and my son drew a sign that said Minecraft Portal and we hung it above the streamers. We also added two creeper balloons to the sides of the “portal”.

Minecraft Spider

At first glance the Minecraft spider is super creepy, but the kids all loved it! This spider is really easy to make you just blow up a black balloon and attach black streamers to the side like legs. Remember it doesn’t have to be perfect.

Minecraft Cake

Now no Minecraft birthday party is complete without a Minecraft cake. The cake was a little more complicated than the party decorations but still REALLY easy. It’s not perfect but the boys went crazy when the saw it. All you need is 1 box of Devil Food Cake, 1-2 Tubs of Green frosting, 5 Rice Krispy Treats, and 1-2 boxes of blue raspberry Jello.

Minecraft Cake

Bake the Minecraft cake in a 9X13 baking dish according to the decorations. After the cake is done let it cool COMPLETELY otherwise it will fall about when you cut it. I even put my cake in the freezer for about 20 minutes to get it a little more firm. Next cut the a section of the cake out in a zig-zac line. Place that portion of the cake on top of the other piece of cake. Next add in the cut sections with rice krispy treats and blue jello. The top of the cake should be frosted to look like green grass. I just used a ziplock baggie and a star decorating tip to make mine.

A few months after our Minecraft party I got an email from a book company that wanted to use my Minecraft cake in their upcoming book on Minecraft crafts. We were super excited about being featured in a real book.

Minecraft Birthday food

Our Minecraft party was the easiest party when it came to coming up with food. I just asked my son what types of food they had in Minecraft and we went from there. Pretzel Sticks for Sticks.

Red licorice for Minecraft TNT. It would even be cute if you stuck a black licorice in the middle for the fuse.

Potion of Healing

And last but not least was the Potion of healing which was my son’s idea. He wanted to do a red punch so we threw together some sherbet, lime soda and hawaiian punch and got this concoction of minecraft punch. It doesn’t look all that good but it was delicious and the kids loved it.

Potion of Healing

Overall this was a fantastic birthday party and the kids had a blast. The best part for me was that it didn’t cost me very much money at all. It’s also a great party idea to get your kids involved with. My son made all of the signs and helped me draw the creeper balloons and hang decorations. He even helped me with the cake. I am sure this birthday will be one he will remember for a long time.
