We live in an age where you can find out just about anything you want about a person online. This can be a scary thought when you think about what type of damage this can cause to a person’s bank account not to mention their life. I have been fortunate to have never had to deal with the effects of Identity Theft but unfortunately this is becoming something that more and more people are experiencing. Identity Theft effects millions of Americans every year. LifeLock Identity Theft Protection helps people by monitoring your identity and alerting you to potential dangers.
According to a 2012 Identity Fraud Report, more than 11.6 million adults became the victims of identity theft. This is a shocking number and very scary to know that this is such a common occurrence. LifeLock is a very easy service to sign up for so you can start protecting yourself from potential dangers of identity theft. It only took me about 15 minutes to sign up and enter all of my information. Immediately LifeLock was able to determine that my accounts were at a low risk for being compromised and that I am taking the proper steps in order to protect myself. If for some reason your accounts are at a high risk, LifeLock will alert you and give you instructions on what to do to correct the problem. There are different membership levels with LifeLock depending on how much coverage you would like. I have the LifeLock Membership which costs $10 per month or $110 per year.
Here’s what is included with your membership:
- Alerts of potential threats–both credit and noncredit related
- Online access to a personalized dashboard showing current threats
- Relentless identity monitoring for exposure of your personal information
- Member services with local phone support—24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year
- Stolen or lost wallet remediation services to help cancel and replace credit and debit cards*
- Comprehensive recovery services if you become a victim of identity theft on our watch.
- The option to extend your line of defense with LifeLock Credit Score Manager™ protection.
Adults are not the only ones that are susceptible to identity theft! Unfortunately many minors become victims and since they don’t use credit cards and check their credit often, this could be a major disaster and an issue that could go undiscovered for quite sometime. Thankfully LifeLock also has an option for an additional fee, to add your minor children so that you can be alerted if someone tries to steal their information. I have only had LifeLock for a little over a week but I feel like I can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that if someone tries to steal my identity, I will be alerted and protected. You may think that Identity Theft could never happen to you, but it could and it’s better to take the steps to protect yourself now than to wait until it’s too late.
