Is Halloween Horror Nights Scary? The simple answer. YES it is! If you love the thrill of walking into a haunted house, not knowing what lurks around each corner, you’re in the right place. During Halloween it’s fun to be scared and I think that is what attracts people to Universal Orlando each year because they put on one of the scariest Halloween attractions I have ever seen. Halloween Horror Nights 24 at Universal Orlando, strives to be the best when it comes to their attractions and each year they push the bar higher and higher. This year they may have very well thrown that bar out the window with the amazing and thrilling attractions you will find at Halloween Horror Nights 24.
Halloween Horror Nights takes place on select nights in the Universal Theme Park side. This year it is home to 8 horrifying haunted houses and multiple scare zones throughout the park. Each attraction is unique and plays on the fears that we have all had at some point. When you arrive at the gates to enter the park you are greeted to the countdown of the annual Purge over a loud speaker, this got my adrenaline pumping which I think is kind of the point. The Purge Anarchy is one of the many scare zones that you will find yourself walking through on your way through the park. These scare actors will all be in character and waiting to give you the scare of a lifetime. The other scare zones include Bayou of Blood, Maskerade Unstitched and Face Off: In the Flesh. All of these zones are unique to their theme and located throughout the streets of Universal. Think of the scare zone as the appetizer to your main course, which is the Haunted Houses.
So what can you expect with these 8 houses. I don’t want to spoil all of the surprises of the houses but I have highlighted a few things you can expect from each of them.
Halloween:
If you watch scary movies then you know exactly who Michael Myers is. The creepy psychotic killer who wears that unforgettable white mask. Walking through the line to the house, your anxiety and anticipation is overwhelming as the halloween theme music plays in the background. When you walk through the Halloween themed house you are going to get your chance to come face to face with him over and over and over agin. You never know which corner he is going to “POP” out of so the entire time your on guard. Here’s a sneak peek of the outside of the house.

Roanoke Cannibal Colony:
If you took history class in school you have probably heard of Roanoke and the lost colony. No one knows what happened to these settlers because they just vanished without a trace. True story. Well Universal Orlando has taken this classic history lesson and retold it in an interesting and unique way. They believe that the Roanoke settlers ate each other and they will want to eat you too, when you come inside. This haunted house was probably the most gruesome as you can imagine.
Giggles and Gore Inc.:
Clowns. They are scary enough when they are normal, but add some sharp teeth and a chainsaw and they become your worst nightmare. This was the first house we went through and it was just a glimpse of what we were in for. This house is set up like a factory where clowns are made and they are not the nice kind either. Enter at your own risk.
Dollhouse of the Damned:
When I heard that there was going to be a scare house that was filled with dolls, I thought to myself “How scary could that be”. Well, it was one of the scariest houses. We were all freaked out from the moment we walked through the house and started seeing dolls of all kinds staring right at you. The visuals are just the beginning of the fright as you walk through the dollhouse. There are creepy sounds and disgusting smells which make the experience all that more real.
AVP: Alien Vs. Predator:
BEST HAUNTED HOUSE EVER! I will never be able to go into another haunted house and look at it the same way again after going through AVP. The effects, costumes and set were all incredible and I was really blown away. The aliens and the predator all look just like they do in the movie. There are no cheesy costumes here, it’s the real deal.
The Walking Dead End of Line:
Walking Dead fans are going to LOVE this haunted house. It takes place basically at the beginning of Season four and goes through the entire season. From the prison, to the grocery store and finally Terminus. If you don’ t like to see walkers than you better close your eyes cause this house is home to upwards of 60+ walkers at any given time. They are everywhere.
From Dusk Till Dawn:
This house was awesome. I couldn’t get over the fact that it looked just like I was really walking onto the set of the movie, From Dusk Till Dawn. When you first walk through the house you are entering the front of the bar from the movie the “Titty Twister”. Inside the “bar”, the dancers have all turned into vampires and there is a gun battle which you will be walking right in the middle of.
Dracula Untold:
I’m gonna be honest, I have never really been that scared of vampires. That’s why I thought that this house would be a piece of cake.WRONG. I jumped and screamed more times in the Dracula house than any other. There are so many unexpected “scares” throughout the house plus the vampires are pretty realistic looking, which freaked me out. The house is also a sneak peek into the new movie Dracula Untold which will hit theaters in the next week.
The Haunted Houses and Scare Zones are the main attractions when it comes to Halloween Horror Nights but you definitely want to make time to see some of the shows. Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure is a must-see for adults. It will have you laughing for the entire length of the show as the actors spoof celebrities, events and movies from the past year. It is a very adult oriented show so if you have little ones or even teenagers you may want to skip it. There is something for both the ladies and the gents in this show (wink..wink).
The other show we caught at the end of the night was The Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute. I have seen the movie but never been to a tribute type show and it was pretty neat. They have all the main characters and re-create the movie as the real movie plays on the big screen. What’s fun about this show is that audience participation is encouraged.
I can’t tell you enough how amazing Halloween Horror Nights 24 is. The sights, sounds, smells they all get your heart pumping. It’s unlike anything I have ever been to before and I can’t wait to do it again. If you have ever thought about visiting Universal Orlando during Halloween, this year is the one to do it!
