Kids all over the country are heading back to class this week including my kids who will be entering the 1st and 5th grade. I stay at home with my kids and pick them up everyday after school. Like most mom’s I am curious as to how their days went and want to hear every detail. Of course that’s not always as simple as it sounds and prying more information than “My day was good” can prove to be more challenging than you think. But I have a secret weapon when it comes to getting my kids to open up and it’s called good food!

Hot Pockets are the perfect after school snack because you can pop in the microwave and the are ready to go in less than a few minutes. They are the perfect size for kids to satisfy their after school hunger and give them the fuel they need to recharge until dinner time. Of course you can’t have a after school snack without a drink and one of our favorites is Nestle Juicy Juice. Juicy Juice is 100% juice with no added sugar which is a great alternative to sugary drinks and soda.
Setting up a quick little picnic outside under a tree or in the shade is the perfect place to connect with your kids. With a little fresh air and fuel for their bodies they will be able to relax and share all about their day without the distraction of the TV or video games. We like to throw down a picnic blanket under our tree in the back yard.
You would be amazed at how much difference an after school snack can make with your kids. With a little “food fuel” they can relax and then the conversation will start to flow.
You can pick up a 12 pack of Hot Pockets in the grocery aisle at your local Walmart. They come in a variety of flavors but our favorite is the pepperoni.
While you’re there don’t forget to swing by the beverage section of Walmart where you can grab a 64 oz bottle of Juicy Juice which goes great with the Hot Pockets.
What grade are your kids going into this year?
