Some of you may know that I had a little cancer scare last year. It all began when I went to see a foot doctor about pain that I had been having in my big toe for a few months. He took one look at my foot and immediately noticed an usual mole on the bottom of my foot. Of course I was a little worried, but he assured me it was probably nothing. He did recommend a biopsy of the mole just to be sure, so reluctantly I did the procedure. About a week later I get a call from his office setting me up with an appointment with the oncologist because the biopsy had come back abnormal. This was extremely frightening for me and all I could think about was my family. Their recommendation was to go back in and remove all tissue around that mole just to be on the safe side. Well you would think that would have been an easy peasy procedure but it wasn’t. Because the mole was on the bottom of my foot this meant no walking, no running, no jogging, nothing on my foot for at least 6 weeks. This was the longest 6 weeks of my LIFE, not to mention I managed to pack on a few unwanted pounds.
Thankfully my friends at Verizon have my back and sent me a Fitbit Zip to try out. You should have heard my excitement when it arrived. I have wanted to try one of these out forever and now is a better time than ever. The first week I was able to walk I felt like my leg was gonna fall off because the muscles hadn’t been worked out in weeks, it took a few days to get used to it but the fitbit has been keeping me motivated. I am able to wear my fitbit zip throughout the day and then my progress is automatically uploaded to my Droid DNA so that I can keep track of the calories that I have burned, and steps that I have walked. Verizon also has a free Fitbit app that can be downloaded to your phone. With this app you can enter the foods that you have eaten and extra activity not recorded on your fitbit. You can also team up with your friends and compete with them to keep you motivated. I haven’t had a chance to play with this feature yet but I am sure that I will because I can always use a little extra push. The Fitbit Zip runs around $60 and you can download the free app to either your iPhone or android. I have only been using my fitbit for a little over a week but I can already tell that I am making progress. It’s exciting to see just how many steps you can do each day.
