Last night I was able to attend my very first Cirque Du Soleil Show and I am still in complete amazement at how spectacular Alegria was. From the start of the show to the very end I could not take my eyes off of all the beautiful and very talented performers.
About Alegría
Alegría is a mood, a state of mind. The themes of the show, whose name means “jubilation” in Spanish, are many. Power and the handing down of power over time, the evolution from ancient monarchies to modern democracies, old age, youth—it is against this backdrop that the characters of Alegría play out their lives. Kings’ fools, minstrels, beggars, old aristocrats and children make up its universe, along with the clowns, who alone are able to resist the passing of time and the social transformations that accompany it.
Since I had never seen a show like this before I really had no expectations and went into the show not knowing what type of performances I would see. I attended the show with my parents and my two children, and we arrived about 30 minutes before so that we could get settled in and catch the pre-show warm up. Now as most of you may know my kids are ages two and six, I knew that my six year old was going to love this type of show but I was a little worried if Aubrey, my two year old would get distracted or scared. I was so happy that she sat on my lap watching, laughing and dancing almost the entire show until she fell asleep at the end. At one point she was laughing so loud that she had the people in front of us and behind us laughing at how much she enjoyed the performers.
During the pre-show some of the clowns come out into the audience and get the audience participating in the fun. I highly recommend getting to the show early so you don’t miss out on this hilarious first part of the show. Everyone who was picked to participate was such a good sport and this added such a great element. Alegria lasts a little over two hours which we spent either laughing or just spell-bound with this magical show.
All of the performers are extremely talented and it is amazing to see some of the acrobatic moves that are performed as well as the beautiful music played and sung throughout the show. I am still humming the tune to Alegria!
This show is by far the most amazing performance that I have ever seen live and I am now hooked on Cirque Du Soleil. I can’t pick out a favorite part of the show because honestly I enjoyed every minute of it equally. I love the fact that this is the type of performance that everyone will love and not only will adults of all ages love it but you can also take your whole family for a night of pure enjoyment.
