You can never really be prepared for how much your life will change after a new baby. I had read all the baby books, took all the classes but as soon as I placed my newborn son in my arms for the first time, I knew that the learning had only just begun. Being at home was the easy part because I had everything that I needed all in one place. But once I started to venture outside the home is when I learned being prepared is so important.
Before you walk about the door with your new baby make sure that you have everything you need. There is nothing worse than to be away from home with your baby and not have what they need. From my past experience I have a few tips that I would love to share with you. Hopefully these tips for traveling with a new baby will help you’re new transition a little bit easier.
5 Tips For Traveling With a New Baby
Start Small
It’s easy to get stir crazy being cooped up in the house with a new baby. And many times most new moms are eager to get out and about with their their new baby once they are feeling better. One of the most important things to keep in mind is to start small and work your way up. It may seem like an easy task taking a small baby to the store, but it’s a lot harder than you might think. Get used to small outings first and then once your comfortable with those then you can add bigger outings.
The More the Merrier
It’s easy to only want to take the minimal amount of baby items when your carrying a diaper bag. Those things get heavy. But trust me, the one time you don’t bring an extra outfit or pacifier is the one time you will need it. So it’s better to over pack than to not have something you need.
Take a On-The-Go Changing Station Pad
It’s almost guaranteed that you will need to change your babies diaper when you are away from home. Most bathrooms have changing stations but they are full of nasty germs and I know you wouldn’t want to lay your baby on that. So with a changing station pad you can rest easy laying your baby down.
Be Prepared to Feed On the go
Even if you think you will only be gone for a little while. Always make sure you are prepared to feed your baby on the go. Whether you are breast-feeding or bottle feeding, make sure you have everything you would normally need to feed your baby.
Be prepared to get dirty
I know it’s hard to think that a tiny 7 pound baby can cause such a mess but let me assure you they can and they will. I lost many outfits the first year of my son’s life from “baby” stains. The key is to make sure you wash your clothes and your babies clothes as soon as possible. This will help to avoid staining, if possible.
