One of my favorite parts about going on vacation is the road trip that you take to get to your destination. Of course having a comfortable ride can make the experience even more exciting. During our recent trip to Branson, the wonderful folks at Chevy sent us the 2014 Chevy Silverado to test drive for the week. I was pretty excited when I learned we would be getting the Silverado because my husband and I actually own a 2002 Chevy Silverado and it’s been one of the most dependable vehicles we have ever owned.
When the truck arrived I was in awe of the new body style. In the new 2014 Chevy Silverado everything, from the interior and exterior styling to ergonomics and performance, has been re-engineered.
The inside of the 2014 Silverado is very spacious and luxurious at the same time. There is lot’s of leg room for both the front and back passengers. The leather seats have a resilient dual-density foam inside which helps maintain its shape longer to offer all-day comfort for many years to come. Both the driver and passenger seats, up front, have cooling and heating options. I also like the fact that the front seats have a hard back. My kids are notorious for putting their feet all over the back of the seats so something like this would help prevent tears or damage.
The new Chevy Silverado is also equipped with MyLink which responds to natural-speech commands, allowing you to access its features hands-free with just a few words. Both the 4.2-inch diagonal color screen and the 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen allow you to easily access connect up to 10 different devices.
By pressing the button on the steering-wheel it gives your voice the power to make phone calls, play music or navigate stored destinations. You can also easily access commonly used features by customizing the MyLink’s home screen. The 8-inch diagonal color touch-screen is mounted in the center of the truck and lets you store up to 60 favorite phone numbers, radio stations or destinations. This screen also doubles as the rear view camera system so you can see what’s behind you when your backing up.
As a family who owns many electronics I really appreciated the multiple power and USB connections provided in the truck. During our 4 hour road trip this past week I was able to charge my laptop, iPad and both smart phones all at the same time!
I’ve talked before,in my other Chevy reviews, at how much I LOVE the OnStar feature. Well the 2014 Silverado comes equipped with the OnStar feature which is connected to the rear-view mirror. To use OnStar you simply push the blue OnStar Button and it will connect you with an agent. Here you can tell them what directions you need and they will send the information directly to your vehicle. This is a priceless feature that has saved us on vacation more than once.
The Safety features on the 2014 Chevy Silverado are amazing. There are six standard airbags which include airbags in the front, side and back. In addition to the rear-view camera system this truck comes equipped with a forward collision alert which vibrates your seat to warn you that you could possible hit something. The first time my seat “buzzed” me I screamed! I didn’t know this feature was on the truck and it startled me. I couldn’t figure out what was going on until I read the features and realized what it was.
On the road to Branson I was pleasantly surprised at how quite the cab is. There was so much traffic and construction on the roads but we didn’t hear any of it which was awesome.
Our truck also had a sunroof that I thought was such a great feature! I love sunroofs but this was the first one I have seen in a truck.
After driving the 2014 Chevy Silverado for a week, let’s just say we are in the market to upgrade our truck! We loved everything about the Silverado. From the comfort, to the new design and safety features this truck has it all! It’s definitely the best of the best when it comes to a dependable and long lasting truck.
